Diligence, Thrift, and Integrity 国际二部 李珈亿

Dear teachers and students,

Good morning!

Elaine have talked about how being a good person starts with yourself. Today, let's talk about another important idea: diligence and thrift. You might ask: What does working hard and saving money have to do with being a good and honest person? Let's look at the wise words of Confucius.

Confucius said: "If you want to lead others, first learn to lead yourself." Being a good person isn't just about making right choices - it's also about how you live your daily life. Being diligent and thrifty shows that you have good habits.

Why diligence and thrift matter:

First, they help us fight greed. When we always want more things - nicer clothes, newer phones - we can never be truly happy. There's a story about Confucius' student Yan Hui, who was very poor but still happy. He taught us that happiness doesn't come from things we own. When we learn to be happy with what we have, we become stronger against temptation.

Second, being thrifty shows good character. It means we respect things and appreciate people's work. An ancient teacher named Zhuge Liang told his son: "Frugality helps build good character." When we practice self-control in small things - like not wasting food or money - we build the strength to do what's right in bigger situations.

What we can do:

In our personal lives:

· Don't waste food or money

· Appreciate what we have

· Make saving a habit

For our community:

· Take care of public property

· Turn off lights and water when not needed

· Use school resources wisely

When we practice diligence and thrift, we build a strong character that helps us resist bad choices. We become better people - honest, responsible, and worthy of trust.

Let's start today! Let's be people who are known for our good character - people who become better through being diligent and thrifty.

Thank you!
